The wierdest mobile office concept ever
Like with any modern designer furniture, what you are getting is a strange shaped pieces moulded from futuristic polycabronate, while looking great, at the end of the day the concept is always the same. Mobile workstations mostly consist of a small table on wheels, and overall look rather unstable and over complicated. Dutch designer Michiel van der Kley came up with the solution when he created Globus.
When it's closed it invites curiosity and fascination by hiding its main function, when open it reveals its funtion and invites anyone to try it. From the first impression, the ball looks simmilar to Marvin robot character of the 2005 film Hitchhickers Guide To The Galaxy. The globe shape unfolds to reveal a leather seat in one half of the sphere and a table in the other. The chair half of the ball swivels comfortably. A truly unique design allows companies to save space in places like airport business llounges, holet lobbies and at home. The base of Globus is made of cast alluminium and has 4 wheels which allows the whole setup to be easily moved if required. The wheels are locked once the pod is open to prevent it moving while a person is sitting inside. The work-top is height adjustable for ultimate comfort.
The outside surface of the Globe is sprayable with any colour of choice, and the leather or fabricks are also available in a wide array of colours.
One significant advantage of the Globus over the standard table and chairs is the added privacy. The top section hides the monitor of your computer inside so its impossible to see from side angles, which stops the onlookers snooping around if you are in a public space.
The Globus has been developed by Lande Productie Schijndel BV in The Netherlands for Artifort and Gispen. The designer of the Globus, Michiel van der Kley has been designing for over 20 years. Some other Artifort product which he designed include Bird, Seven, Isobel, Dive and Conco series of chairs.
